How To Make Your Own Mega Hair Growth Serum

July 22, 2017 by Erica King

It all started with Kemi oil…

— you know that oil from back in the day in the small brown bottle.

It was The BOMB!

Kemi Oil wouldn’t weigh your hair down, it smelled good, made my hair ultra soft, and it was never oily.

The bottle said it was all-natural, but it didn’t list the actual ingredients.  I wasn’t as concerned about natural ingredients back then, so it wasn’t a deal breaker.

The oil worked and made wrapping my hair each night something to look forward to.

When I was looking for a hair growth oil a few years ago, I found Kemi Oil in Sally’s Beauty Supply — again.

I was about to get it but first, I had to check those ingredients.

It still didn’t say.

Since my kids have a few allergies, I have to check the ingredients to be safe. The company was mum on their ingredients.

So I set out to make my own.

I found some pretty good hair oil recipes, but I wanted an oil that would also speed hair growth.

I gathered all of my ingredients to see which oil showed up the most. Castor oil won, so I added it to some safflower oil and essentials.

The Mega Hair Growth Serum was born!

I’m going to show you how to make your own Mega Hair Growth Serum with ingredients you know will grow your hair.

In order to make this week’s recipe, you’ll need to identify key ingredients from your favorite products. You’ll list them on the product list below.

If you haven’t completed it yet — you’re right on time!

Print the list and gather 5 to 10 of your current hair products. They don’t have to be all-natural, if your hair loves them that’s all that matters!

Once the form is complete…

  1. Review your list.
  2. Write or circle the hair oil you see most often in your ingredients
  3. Write or circle all of the essential oils in your ingredients

This info puts the MEGA in your hair growth serum. It is unique and specific to your hair. The best part is — you already know it works for your hair!

What I Learned From My List…

Castor oil, rosemary, ylang ylang, and jojoba oil, were a few of the ingredients that kept showing up. Castor oil and ylang ylang weren’t a shock this time, but the jojoba oil was.

I’ve used jojoba oil in the past, but it would make my scalp itch…and not in a ‘maybe it’s growing’ kind of way.

I’m glad my scalp is loving it again.

I used this serum when I took my twists down a few weeks ago…

— and again on my lil naturalistas curls during styling and scalp massage.

Now that you know the oils your hair LOVES, it’s time to make your Mega Hair Growth Serum!

Here’s the basic recipe:

  • 30 drops essential oil (1/4 teaspoon)
  • 2 ounces of carrier oil (4 tablespoons)

The oils I’ll be using are:

  • organic safflower oil
  • castor oil
  • rosemary essential oil
  • basil essential oil
  • cedarwood essential oil

**All of the ingredients in this recipe may be substituted with your hair oils.**

Mega Hair Growth Serum Benefits

The Carrier | Safflower Oil

Safflower oil is described by Milady’s Skin Care and Cosmetics Ingredients Dictionary, as a carrier oil that is “hydrating to the skin.”

Safflower oil is a light, fragrance free oil that is high in essential fatty acids and triglycerides. These nutrients are excellent for:

  1. increasing circulation to the scalp
  2. stimulating hair growth
  3. strengthening hair follicles
  4. keeping hair shiny and vibrant

Safflower oil has some of the highest nutrients of all carrier oils and blends very well with other essential oils.

For more about safflower oil (and a lil something about castor), see Lavishly Natural’s Hair Oil Cocktail.

  5. You can’t really find Kemi Oil now, and after talking to one of their representatives, who still couldn’t tell me the ingredients, Jason recommended another product by a similar name — Kemi Oyl — thanks Jason:)
